Developing writers
At Ley Top Primary School, we believe that writing is a cornerstone of communication, creativity and critical thinking. In primary school, teaching writing is not just about grammar and punctuation—it’s about empowering children to express their ideas, tell their stories and make sense of the world around them. Through writing, children learn to organise their thoughts, develop their voice and build confidence in their ability to communicate effectively.
A strong foundation in writing supports success across the curriculum, from articulating reasoning in maths to crafting explanations in science and reflecting in personal development. It also nurtures empathy and imagination, allowing children to explore different perspectives and experiences.
By prioritising writing in the primary years, we equip children with a lifelong skill that opens doors to learning, opportunity, and self-expression.
